Tranströmer x 2 in Hanoi

Emma Tranströmer, Tomas Tranströmer’s daughter, performed musical adaptations of some her father’s poems both at the EU Music Festival on Sunday, Dec 2 and at a Tomas Tranströmer literature event organised by the Swedish Embassy on Monday, Dec 3.

The Swedish Embassy together with the Labour Publishing House has republished a collection of the Nobel laureate for Literature Tomas Tranströmer’s poems translated into Vietnamese. This book was distributed to the approximately 400 people that attended the closing concert of this year’s EU Music Festival 2012 on Sunday, December 2 at the Youth Theatre in Hanoi. Selected poems from the book were recited in Swedish and Vietnamese and then sung by Emma Tranströmer accompanied by the pianist Andreas Kreuger.

On Monday December 3, the Swedish Embassy organised a Tomas Tranströmer event and a reception at the residence to launch the newly published book. Attending were representatives from the diplomatic corps, publishers, authors and musicians.

Ambassador Camilla Mellander spoke about the role of culture in forging ties among people and countries and pointed out that Sweden wishes to continue cooperating with Vietnam in the cultural field in the future. Emma read and sung her father’s poems and shared stories of how some of the poems came to being.
