Volvo strengthens Premium segment position with V90

The new V90 is the latest in the premium car maker’s top-of-the-line 90 series sitting alongside the award winning XC90 SUV and the recently-launched S90 premium sedan. Building on Volvo Cars’ indisputable heritage in the estate segment, that began over 60 years ago with the Volvo Duett, the new V90 takes the premium estate a clear step forward in terms of aesthetics, materials and finish, while living up to the ultimately practical nature of any true estate.

Anette Andersson, Managing Director, Volvo Car (Thailand) Company Limited, says that after the launches of the XC90 in March 2016 and the S90 in December 2016, she is very satisfied to have  launched the new V90 which is globally a great success for Volvo Cars. “With the launch of the new V90 we strengthen our position in the Premium segment and we reinforce our new Brand strategy ‘we go forward, for you’.”

Like its siblings XC90 and S90, the new V90 carries the proud and confident face of Volvo’s new design language, along with classic Volvo styling cues. Key features include the iconic “Thor’s Hammer” LED headlight design, the new grille and Volvo Iron Mark, and the expressive use of the Volvo word mark on the rear.

Built on the new Scalable Product Architecture (SPA), Volvo’s new product platform that will underpin many new models, the new V90 delivers cutting-edge Pilot Assist semi-autonomous drive technology, the most advanced standard safety package on the market, with large animal detection and run-off road mitigation, class-leading connectivity Sensus Connect including smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay, and Premium experience with the Bowers & Wilkins sound system.

Safety and semi-autonomous drive
Volvo’s leadership in the field of automotive safety is confirmed in the V90. Volvo’s City Safety Technology, standard on all Volvo models, combines automatic breaking functionality and collision avoidance systems to cover a range of potential accident scenarios and help keep you safe.

City Safety’s functionality is further extended in the V90 with Large Animal Detection, designed to help avoid or mitigate collisions with large animals. An auto-steer functionality which helps to keep you on the road, called Run Off Road Mitigation, has also been added.

Volvo’s overall safety offering, called IntelliSafe, encompasses both active and passive safety systems and forms the groundwork for Volvo’s leadership in the field of autonomous drive. The V90 already offers semi-autonomous drive with Pilot Assist, which works up to 130 km/h on clearly marked roads. Pilot Assist is another step towards Volvo’s Vision 2020, which states that no one should be killed or seriously injured in a new Volvo by 2020.

CONNECTIVITY: SENSUS CONNECT and BOWERS & WILKINS
All new Volvos are now connected, thanks to Volvo’s connectivity offering called Sensus Connect. The traditional console with cluttered switches and buttons has now been replaced with a smooth, intuitive 9-inch touchscreen display which can also be controlled from the steering wheel and voice-control capability, enabling easy and fast access to a host of functions and features, including car functions, navigation and in-car entertainment applications such as TuneIn and Local Search etc. Sensus Connect is one of the world-first system which is compatible with the Apple CarPlay for the iOS devices, like iPhone. The software helps cast iPhone screen onto the 9-inch display. Most recently, Auto Android system is also available for Android connectivity

The new V90 comes equipped with one of the world best stereo system, the Premium Sound by the Bowers & Wilkins. This top performing sound system comes with 1400 Watt, Class-D, 12-channel amplifier with 19 loudspeakers and a unique air-ventilated subwoofer delivers richer, deeper bass. The system features the unique ‘Room Transformation’ technology that has been developed together with the Swedish audio software specialists Dirac Research. This technology has made it possible to recreate the acoustics of a specific room inside the car. There are three different ‘Room Modes’, which is a unique feature. The modes are ‘Studio’, ‘Individual Stage’ and ‘Gothenburg Concert Hall’, which has an acoustic design recreating the unique acoustic experience of the Gothenburg Concert Hall.

Drive-E Powertrain Technology
The New V90 is available with Drive-E Powertrain diesel common-rail twin-turbo with i-Art technology. Volvo’s award-winning in-house developed 2.0-litre 4 cylinder engines form the basis of Volvo’s powertrain offer with 8-speed automatic transmission, delivering superior capacities in terms of engine performance, low emissions, and fuel efficiency. The V90 D4 Inscription has a maximum of 190hp@4,250rpm, outputs 400Nm of torque at 1,750rpm-2,500rpm, accelerates from rest to 100km/h in just 8.2s, with an average fuel consumption of 19.6 km/l, and has CO2 emission of 133g/km.
