New Defense Attaché at the Beijing Royal Norwegian Embassy

Colonel Trond Kaalsaas has assumed the position as the Norwegian Defense Attaché to the People’s Republic of China at the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Beijing.


He replaces Colonel Jørn Olsen who served in this position since 2009.


Colonel Kaalsaas is an army engineer officer. In addition to traditional national service, he has worked with humanitarian demining in Cambodia, been deployed to KFOR II in Kosovo and served as Deputy Defense Attaché at the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Moscow, Russia.


His previous posting was at the Norwegian Ministry of Defense.


He enrolled in the Norwegian armed forces in 1980. In 2009, Colonel Kaalsaas attended the Senior Course at the Norwegian Defense Command and Staff College.


He has a M.Sc. Asian Studies from Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Singapore.
