Gustavus Malaysia programme joins the Sweden programme

The Gustavus Center for International and Cultural Education (CICE) has announced the launch of a new Gustavus faculty-led programme called Semester in Malaysia: Living Diversity which will join Gustavus’ Semester in Sweden and Semester in India programmes.

The program, offered in partnership with Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Penang, will join the Gustavus Semester in Sweden and Semester in India programmes as the College’s signature faculty-led, study away opportunities.

Universities in Sweden that participate in the Gustavus Faculty Led Semester Programs are Mora Folkhögskola, Uppsala University and Linnaeus University.

Director of the College’s CICE Carolyn O’Grady said that as a study away destination, Malaysia tends to be overlooked and is unfortunate as peninsular Malaysia is one of the most fascinating destinations in Southeast Asia.

“As a country with an ethnically, linguistically and religiously diverse population, not to mention its biologically rich habitats, Malaysia is a veritable laboratory for the study of diversity.”

The Semester in Malaysia program is open to all Gustavus students with at least a 2.75 cumulative grade point average. The application deadline for the spring 2014 semester program is March 1, 2013.
