Danish embassy hosts Sino-Danish education event

The Danish embassy in Beijing held an all-day event with focus on educational collaboration between Denmark and China on Monday, 22 October.

“More collaboration in the area of student exchange and mobility” was the theme of the event.

In cooperation with China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE), the Innovation Centre Denmark in Shanghai organised the event that started off with a Sino-Danish University Workshop for representatives from eight Danish and 25 Chinese universities.

The Danish ambassador to China, Mr. Friis Arne Petersen, opened the event saying, “The idea of the workshop is to exchange knowledge about Chinese and Danish university systems and to share examples of best practices on collaboration for student exchange and mobility.”

“My hope is that the workshop will serve as a platform for stronger relations and new partnerships between Chinese and Danish universities,” he continued.

Among the participating Chinese universities were, Peking University, Renmin University of China and Tsinghua University.

The Danish universities represented were University of Copenhagen, Roskilde University, Aarhus University, Aalborg University, Southern Danish University, Sino-Danish University Center, Technical University of Denmark and Copenhagen Business School.

Opportunities for more student exchange across the two countries were discussed at the event, and the day ended with an event in the Sino-Danish Alumni Network.

Platform to strengthen educational ties between Denmark and China

In the evening, the Danish ambassador was host at an event arranged for the Sino-Danish Network, as a step in strengthening the Sino-Danish ties professionally, culturally and socially in order to gain stronger relations and more exchanges.

Besides the alumni, representatives from a number of Danish companies and universities participated.

The overall purpose of the Sino-Danish Network is to develop and maintain a national platform for Chinese people in China and in Denmark, who have education experience from a Danish university. Furthermore, it is a platform for promotion of Danish study and career opportunities to Chinese students and young professionals.

Agreement on higher education cooperation

During President Hu Jintao’s state visit to Denmark in June 2012, the Ministry of Education in China and the Ministry for Science, Innovation and Higher Education in Denmark signed a new Framework Agreement on the strengthening of higher education cooperation.

One of the forms for collaboration mentioned in this agreement is the exchange of information on education policies and best practices. The day at the embassy was arranged as a step in the direction of fulfilling these agreements.
