Aker Kvaerner helps BP project in Vietnam achieve gas sales milestone

After 19 months of successful operation, the US$1.3 billion Nam Con Son project – the largest foreign oil and gas project in Vietnam – has achieved the milestone of two billion cubic metres of gas sales through full operations and maintenance support services provided by Aker Kvaerner.
Since November 2002, Aker Kvaerner, in an alliance with the Petroleum Technical Services Company (PTSC) has provided operations and maintenance support services upstream for the Lan Tay offshore production platform, and midstream at the Dinh Co onshore gas processing plant, located 120 km south of Ho Chi Minh City.
This role is alongside the earlier supplies of the subsea production system for the Nam Con Son field, including trees, controls and subsea manifold. The Aker Kvaerner companies continue to support Nam Con Son long term for service and maintenance of the subsea systems.
“Best-in-class performance has helped us to achieve this significant milestone and more importantly this was achieved with no lost time accidents during the 2 years continuous operation,” said Mary Shafer Malicki, Director General of BP Exploration Operating Company Limited.
Aker Kvaerner Australia has a long term contract to provide technical support for the operation and maintenance of the offshore platform and gas terminal. The project team is responsible for overall project management, detailed engineering, procurement of equipment and bulk materials plus construction management of regular works on the facilities. The alliance personnel are an integral part of the team at both the platform and the gas terminal and have been instrumental in ensuring safe and reliable support from local service providers.
“On Nam Con Son we have established operations and maintenance services that will set, and maintain, new standards for the petroleum and chemicals industry in this region,” said Tom Quinn, Managing Director of Kvaerner Oil and Gas Australia Pty Ltd.
The Aker Kvaerner unit that is part of the alliance with the Petroleum Technical Services Company and responsible for the described contract to provide technical support for the operation and maintenance of the offshore platform and gas terminal is Kvaerner Oil and Gas Australia Pty Ltd. Kvaerner Oilfield Products Australia Pty Ltd delivered the subsea systems and is now providing service for these systems.
