Norwegian trade with Thailand grew in January 2003

Norway’s import from Thailand increased slightly by 4.2% to 89.6 million NOK in January 2003 while export from the Scandinavian country to Thailand during the same month grew significantly by 61.3% to NOK 50.7 million.
Unlike with Thailand, Norway’s trade with Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia in January 2003 decreased considerably from January last year. Imports from the three countries declined by 17.3, 22.6 and 21.2 per cent respectively while export to these countries also shrank by 42.3, 4.2 and 79.4 per cent respectively.
Norway’s trade surplus for the month came to NOK 19.5 billion, an increase of as much as 24.5 per cent compared with the same month last year. The increase is mainly due to a 30.8 per cent increase of the export value of oil, and a fall in imports of 5.4 per cent.
