Danida Adds Another Chapter to its Vietnamese Fishing Fairy Tale

Since Denmark began its financial support of Vietnam’s fishing industry in 1993, the country has gone from being mainly self-providing to being one of the world’s leading exporters of treated fish products. As Vietnam’s biggest donor in this area, Danida has played a significant role in that development.

On October 26 2005, Danida’s Board approved a grant of 245.7 million DKK (some 40 million USD) to be spent in phase 2 of Denmark’s financial assistance to Vietnam’s fisheries sector. Phase 1 is due to end this year, but with this new grant the fisheries sector programme will continue at least five more years – with phase 2 stretching from 2006 to 2010.
