DTAC is Ready to Compete with AIS

Telenor group’s president and chief executive Jon Fredrik Baksaas said January 17 that Total Access Communication (DTAC) is ready to compete with Advanced Info Service Plc (AIS).
Advanced Info Service Plc (AIS), Thailan’s biggest telecommunication company, is a subsidiary of Shin Corp Plc which is reportedly a takeover target of Singapore-based Temasek Holdings.
According to a local report, Temasek is anxious to acquire a 49.61pct holding in Shin Corp Plc.
DTAC, Thailand’s second largest mobile company, says it is still prepared to compete, even if Shin Corporation is taken over by a regional player.
Baksaas said DTAC’s spending on network expansion and network quality improvement was the key to remaining competitive.
DTAC is now wholly owned by its Norwegian strategic partner Telenor, which late last year bought out the holdings of the founding Bencharongkul family.
