Swedish Ombudsman Visits Manila To Promote Children’s Rights

The Ombudsman for Children in Sweden, Ms. Lena Nyberg, will visit the Philippines early February to strengthen co-operation between the Philippines and Sweden in ensuring that the rights of the child are being recognized, protected and promoted.

The Ombudsman’s visit February 6-11 is part of a three year co-operation program between the Ombudsman and the Philippine Commission on Human Rights

The Ombudsman’s delegation will also include a senior prosecutor and a judge. Deputy Chairperson of the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child, Prof. Yanghee Lee, Ph.D. will speak at the conference.

During the visit, the Ombudsman will actively participate in a Logical Framework Approach Workshop for State Actors in the Child Justice System and as a speaker at the Conference to Strengthen the Philippine Child Justice System, both of which are being spearheaded by the Commission on Human Rights of the Philippines.

The agreement between the Commission on Human Rights of the Philippines (CHRP), the Office of the Swedish Ombudsman for Children and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) means a total amount of Php 34,000,000 has been granted by Sweden to the CHRP for the purpose of strengthening the CHRP’s Child Rights Center (CRC).
