Swedish Ambassador Visits Thai Foreign Minister

Jonas Hafström, Swedish Ambassador to Thailand paid a courtesy call March 17 Dr. Kantathi Suphamongkhon, Minister of Foreign Affairs, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During the meeting, both sides discussed the impressive progress of the Thai-Swedish Joint Plan of Action under which Sweden will host the 1st Meeting of the Thai-Swedish Cooperation Committee to be chaired by the permanent secretaries of the Foreign Ministries to discuss activities under the plan.
Dr. Kantathi expressed his appreciation to Sweden for their contribution to the UNESCAP Voluntary Trust Fund which will be used for the Tsunami surveillance and early warning system in the region. On that account Jonas Hafström explained that Sweden would ask more countries to cooperate and participate in the Fund.
The Swedish Ambassador also inquired about the recently mooted Mega Projects stressing that many Swedish companies had expressed their interest in submitting  proposals.
Other topics such as the current political situation in Thailand and the fact that Sweden will hold general elections in September this year, and the spread of bird flu in Europe and Asia were also on the agenda.
