Danish Thaiboxer Ready for World Cup in Thailand

For the second consequetive time, Roskilde Thaiboxing Club will send a fighter to the World Cup in Thaiboxing. The defending Danish champion in the 67-kilo class, the only 18 year-old Mohammed El-Mir, will be Denmark’s only representative at the World Cup, which will take place in Bangkok from May 31 to June 7.
At the World Cup in Kazakhstan in 2004, Roskilde Thaiboxing Club sent fighter Kim Jensen, who got two fights before he was knocked out of the tournament. But according to personal coach Hans Olesen, Mohammed El-Mir has the potential to get even further this year.
“Mohammed has been convincing in his weight class in Denmark, Sweden, and the Netherlands during his time as an amateur. If he can get a better control over his techniques, I see him as possible group winner,” says Hans Olesen.

Thai Favorites
But a lot of unknown factors are involved when looking at the potential Danish success at this year’s World Cup. No one knows who the other opponents are and how strong they are, and the climate is very different than in Denmark.
“Of course, the Thai fighters are favorites. But other than that it’s very simple. You lose, you’re out,” says Hans Olesen.
In spite of his young age, Mohammed El-Mir has already fought 48 games, of which he has won the 42.
