Maersk Is Buying Oil Rigs for 2.5 Billion DKK

The two rigs are being brought by A.P Møller-Maersk’s subsidiary “Maersk Contractors” that is running Maersk’s drilling operations.
“We are experiencing an increasing demand in the high-end jack-up market. The two rigs in question have characteristics making them well fit for the highly sought after and attractive exploration and development jobs, CEO at Maersk Contractors, Claus Hemmingsen explains.
The seller of the two Singaporean build rigs is Norwegian Petrojack. The first rig is ready for delivery in March 2007 and the second in June 2008. Both rigs can operate in depths up to 375 feet.
The two newly brought rigs are not the only ones Maersk Contractors are looking to add to their fleet. The company already has three rigs under construction by Keppel Fels also based in Singapore.
The five rigs under construction have total value of over 10 billion DKK.
Maersk Contractors’ fleet currently counts 26 rigs and the company has 6800 employees.
