Peter Gade Quits Thailand Open

After having advanced to the third round of Thailand Open according to expectations, the Danish badminton favorite Peter Gade had to pull out due to an injury. Consequently, his opponent in the tournament’s third round – Sung Hwan from South Korea – will progress to the next round on Peter Gade’s expense. The Danish player had been seeded third among all the starting players at this Grand Prix tournament – which is played this week in Bangkok – and thus he was among the favorites to go all the way.
In double’s part of the tournament the Danes are moving on in fine style. Lars Paaske and Mathias Boe made it through to the second round without much ado when they defeated their Malaysian opponents. In the women’s double tournament, Danish players Lena Frier Kristiansen and Kamilla Rytter Juhl are also through to the second round.
As previously reported on ScandAsia.com, the Danish mixed double teams have already progressed to the third round.
