“The seminar is very interesting and successful with lot of participants from both sides, and also some interested companies from Philippines” said Kim Kjaer, chairman of the Danish Fishing Equipment Group.
The one-week seminar is aimed to exchange high level knowledge and know-how technique, which can provide more efficient and competitive equipment to a market, and further development on fishing business between Denmark and Thailand.
“To share the similarity in fishing business of Denmark and Thailand is important” continued Kim Kjaer and added that Thailand is a big interesting market for Danish companies in Southeast Asia. The Danish Fishing Equipment Group aims to make close tie of the fishing industry between Denmark and Thailand and hopefully to play long-term relationship between the two countries.
The interesting program on Monday started with visits to fishing boats at Mahachai harbor by Fishery Association of Samutsakorn, Sirichai harbor and various Thai factories in the area; the Union Frozen Products, PSP Marine.
“It is very interesting and useful program for us, as the new comer who would like to expand into Thai market,” Kaj Christensen, Managing Director of K.M Fish Machinery A/S said and continued “This is our first time here in Thailand. The program opens a door and offers a great opportunity to talk to local Thai fishing companies directly.”
Most companies are worldwide exporter, the strength of the group is network and that we can help each other and learn not to follow the same mistake of other companies, said Kim Kjaer.
On Tuesday, the representatives from the nine participating companies were given an introduction on current political and economical situation by Poul Skov-Petersen, Commercial Counselor of the Royal Danish Embassy. Moreover, the delegation also got to know about Thai mentality and Danish business community in Thailand presented by President Leo Alexandersen of Danish-Thai Chamber of Commerce. Last but not least, it was the brief presentation on the seafood industry in Thailand and how successfully to sell equipment in Thailand by managing Director Søren Presmann of Presmann (Thailand) Co., Ltd.
Wednesday and Thursday were occupied by exhibition, seminar and individual contact meetings – which offer Danish and Thai companies to have opportunities to discuss and meet with each other for further cooperation. So far, some Danish companies can get orders and inquiries from local Thai companies.
“10% of inquiry would be sent. I will be happy.” Poul Hansen of Fishfarming equipment import and export company, SCANFI ApS, told ScandAsia.

The seminar was organized by the Danish Fishing Equipment Group, which is part of Danish Export Association, in cooperation with the Royal Danish Embassy in Thailand and the Thai Overseas Fisheries Association.
