150 Danes – including about 50 dressed up children gathered in The Danish Seaman’s Church in Singapore on Sunday for the annual Shrovetide celebration. The family service started at 3 pm and was followed by the Shrovetide dress up party for children.
According to Grethe Jensen, Assistant at the church, this year’s Shrovetide trend was princesses for the girls and action heroes for the boys. “But we also saw a little sailor, a Chinese and a couple of angels”, says Grethe Jensen. She had spent three mornings in a row baking 300 of the traditional cream filled buns for the guests to enjoy during the ‘cat out of the barrel’ tournament.
