In addition to providing 2.3 million USD to the Government’s Recycled Energy Fund, Sweden will continue providing technical assistance to Viet Nam in developing recycled energy projects for rural areas, Swedish Ambassador Rolf Bergman said.
The diplomat made the statement at the opening ceremony of the Viet Nam-Sweden Recycled Energy Week in Ha Noi on March 19.
The rural power program has brought electricity to 98 percent of Viet Nam ’s communes, Ambassador Bergman said.
However, he noted, there remains 25,000 family households in northern mountainous Ha Giang and central Quang Nam provinces and other remote areas that have not been connected to the national power grid.
Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry Do Huu Hao spoke highly of Sweden , other governments and international organisations’ assistance to Viet Nam ’s rural electricity development program.
He said due to the assistance, the Ministry of Trade and Industry has been able to complete projects that have increased local capacity in devising recycled energy schemes.
The deputy minister said he also hoped to receive further assistance to help finish the program and benefit rural residents.
During the three-day event, a recycled energy forum between Viet Nam ’s management agencies and foreign experts will also be held.
