Climate Change: Ambassador promises 25 Mio. $ To Vietnam Over The Next Five Years

The Vietnamese government is building a national programme on climate change and hopes that donors will assist the country to cope with this disaster, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said at a meeting with Danish Ambassador to Vietnam Peter Hansen and UN Resident Coordinator John Hendra in Hanoi on April 18.
PM Dung stressed that Vietnam is well aware of the seriousness of global climate change and sees the phenomenon as a menace to Vietnam’s sustainable development.
The PM thanked the Danish government, and UNDP for joining hands with the Vietnamese Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to build the national target programme on climate change.
He affirmed that the government will carefully examine this important programme before submit it to the National Assembly for approval.
Both the Danish Ambassador and the UN Resident Coordinator pledged funding to Vietnam in the area. Ambassador Peter Hansen said Denmark will provide 25 million USD over the next five years from the end of 2008 for the pilot projects coping with climate change.
