Swedish embassy warns against fake Thai visa stamps

A number of Swedish citizens and dozens of tourists from other countries have the past week been rejected to leave Thailand when immigration staff has discovered fake Thai entry and exit stamps in their passports.
All of them have utilized travel agents that offer visa extension services.
But the stamps are fake and may, if discovered, lead to fines and up to three years imprisonment.
“Handle all visa extensions by yourself,” advises Mr Stellan Berg at the consular section of Sweden’s embassy in Bangkok.
Consular staff from all EU embassies met in Bangkok last week to discuss the problem with fake visa stamps.
“We had not heard about the problem before. But in just one week after the meeting we have seen three cases at our embassy,” says Stellan Berg.
