Bofors Defence announces joint venture plans with Malaysian partner

The Malaysian shipyard Penang Ship Building – Naval Dockyard Bhd and the Swedish defence systems provider Bofors Defence confirm talks on setting up a joint venture in Malaysia.
It is a more formalised cooperation for maintenance and spare parts to naval air defense systems that has prompted the discussion to set up a company.
Currently Malaysia purchases such services from Bofors for SEK 30 to 50 Million yearly.
Having a company in place will increase Bofors’ opportunities to grow its market in the region, says marketing manager Lars Rockert to the Swedish news agency TT.
Malaysia’s Defence Minister Najib Razak met with Bofors management to talk about this project and further cooperation between the two countries during the recent official visit by Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad to Sweden.
