Despite riots in November and various financial disturbances 2008 became a record-breaking year for the number of Danes, who visited Thailand. A recently published report from the official tourist authorities in Thailand states, that around 145000 Danes visited the country during the year of 2008. An increase by about seven percentages since 2007 – in itself another record-breaking year.
Danish travel agencies explain the growth with the sunny beaches and cheap cost of living in the “Kingdom of smiles” – but even tough Thailand remains a popular vacation destination for the people of Denmark, most travel agencies doubt that this year will outperform 2008 as the Danish economy has just begun to experience the consequences of the economic recession.
