Denmark funds training for Vietnamese art teachers

Fifty art teachers in primary schools nationwide will receive training to improve their teaching skills in 2009-2010 with funding from the Danish government. The training is part of a DKK 3.49 million (US$652,000) Danish programme to support art education in Vietnam’s primary schools.

The Thai Nguyen Teachers Training College and Vordingborg College of Education carried out the first phase of the project from 2006 -2008, training 48 art teachers from the northern province of Thai Nguyen. The art curriculum and teaching methods in many primary schools have improved significantly.

The programme was aimed at developing pedagogical methods and teaching materials as well as stimulating creative thinking and cognitive development among children. The experiences from the programme will be shared with the Ministry of Education and Training and other art training institutions at a national seminar scheduled for 2010.

As part of the Danish Strategy for Development Cooperation 2006-2010, Denmark is focusing on children, ethnic minorities and the development of Vietnam’s cultural life.
