China to Fuel Danish Pig Sector Revival

Demand from China for more pork meat import is expected to create new growth in the Danish pig sector. Denmark is expected to benefit more from this demand than other EU countries, because Denmark exports pork directly to China.
The revival of the pig sector is much needed. Last year saw EU piglet production fall to its lowest level since the 1990s as economic downturn pushed many operators into liquidation. The prediction is now, that European Union piglet output will rise by 1.5 mill. animals to 256.0 mill. in 2010, the first rise in three years, to feed the rebound in demand for pork from Chinese and Russian importers as well.
While China is also aiming to meet its own needs, it will rely increasingly on imports for pork by-products nonetheless.
