Nestlé Adapts Rainforest Friendly Company Policy

After being subjected to a very intense campaign against Nestlé and its products, the company has announced that from today onwards it will no longer be using palm tree oil from companies that contribute to the destruction of the rainforest.

Greenpeace, the organization behind the campaign, is satisfied with this result and they see this as a major break though in the preservation of rainforests and of, especially, the orang-utans that live there.

The slogan of one of Nestlé’s most popular products is “Have a break – have a KitKat” and Dan Belusa from Danish Greenpeace who has been actively involved with the campaign feels that the slogan is also appropriate in this situation:

“It is great news that Nestlé will give the orang-utan a break,” he says.

The commitment Nestlé has made means that the company will have to identify and exclude all suppliers with plantations that contribute to the destruction of rainforest environments, and Greenpeace hopes that other large organizations such as Carrefour and Wal-Mart will be inspired to take similar measures.
