Malaysia Buys Underwater Vehicle from Norway

For the first time ever, Kongsberg Maritime has taken an order from Malaysia to supply a HUGIN AUV. The full name of the product, which has been bought by the seismic survey division of the Malaysian company, Offshore Works group (OGS), is HUGIN 1000 Autonomous Underwater Vehicle.

HUGIN 1000 AUV is a tool designed for seismic surveying. It can go down as far as 3000 meters, and it will provide deep water services for seabed mapping such as hydrographic and seismic surveying. That is, mapping and monitoring the surface of the Earth by taking high resolution images and other data of the sea bottom.

“Recognition of HUGIN around the world is high and we are seeing it grow in Asia, so we are proud to have been selected as the AUV vendor to OGS, and are confident that HUGIN AUV will perform well,” says Antoney Wellesley, Regional Manager of Kongsberg Maritime.

HUGIN 1000 will be stationed in Labuan, Malaysia, and will enhance the technical capabilities available to the oil and gas industry in the deepwater Asia region. It will explore the region and will be delivered during the second quarter of 2010.
