Vestas Introduces New Offshore Windmills to China

Vestas is ready to develop China’s rich offshore wind resources with its abundant experience in offshore wind energy projects and cutting-edge technology.

This readiness and commitment is underlined by being the co-sponsor of Offshore Wind China 2010 Conference and Exhibition which takes place at the Shanghai International Exhibition Center.

At the opening ceremony, Vestas Offshore President Anders Søe-Jensen will deliver a keynote speech, sharing Vestas’ international offshore experience on matters that are critical to ensuring successful and high quality offshore wind energy projects. “Offshore wind energy projects require far more thorough planning than onshore projects. At sea, no infrastructure is in place, so the logistical challenges as well as challenges related to cabling need to be dealt with while being attentive to safety, costs and the time schedule of the project. Having installed around half the worlds offshore wind turbines Vestas is one of the most experienced players in this field and we are happy to share our experience with the Chinese offshore wind industry,” states Anders Søe-Jensen.

In China, Vestas is fully capable of immediately delivering on the first offshore projects. “We are ready with our people, our turbines and our experience to partner with our customers in their endeavors into offshore wind energy,” says Vestas China President Jens Tommerup. “By virtue of our many offshore projects from Europe, we have strong capabilities in planning, designing, executing and maintaining offshore wind parks. All this we are ready to share with our customers and apply to China’s conditions.”

To further underline Vestas’ commitment to actively develop China’s offshore wind energy, the newest flagship product, the V112-3.0 MW turbine will be introduced to the Chinese customers.

The V112-3.0 MW offshore model is optimised for the conditions at sea and will be a hard working, reliable turbine. It offers an exceptional rotor-to-generator ratio for greater efficiency, and delivers high reliability, serviceability and availability under all wind and weather conditions – setting a whole new standard for turbine performance and efficiency. It features an extended production envelope, and delivers optimal output in average wind speeds up to 9.5 m/s. The V112-3.0 MW will be class individually IECS certified for each separate offshore project.

Vestas installed the first offshore wind turbines in 1990 and constructed the world’s first large scale offshore wind park of 160 MW at Horns Rev, Denmark, in 2001. Today, Vestas has installed more than 900 MW at sea. This has endowed Vestas with long, extensive experience in constructing wind power plants at sea, the design-related requirements and optimization of transport and installation.
