Carlsberg Gains Access to Chinese Breweries

Carlsberg wants to own a larger share of the Chinese Brewery Chongqing Brewery Co. The Danish brewery plans to buys shares in the company at a value of approximately US Dollars 340 or 2.1 billion kroner – that is 12.25 percent of shares.

With that, Carlsberg will become the biggest shareholder of the Chinese brewery with a total share of a little less than 30 percent. The Chinese brewery runs 15 breweries all over China.

By buying up the shares, Carlsberg is tricking the largest group of breweries in the world, Anheuser-Busch InBev and a number of other breweries, which have also made an offer on the shares.

The Chinese brewery is located in Chongqing, which is the largest city in Western China. The city is both an important industrial region and a commercial port in the Yangtze River.
