Dane Appointed Honorary Doctor at Thai University

Associate Professor Emeritus Jørgen Hylleberg, Marine Ecology, Department of Biological Sciences, has been conferred an Honorary Degree by the Kasetsart University, Bangkok, Thailand.

In the reason for Jørgen Hylleberg’s appointment, the university stated that:
Dr Jørgen Hylleberg has made significant contributions to Kasetsart University in many different areas over many years.

In 1980 and 1999, he accepted an invitation from the Faculty of Fisheries to lecture both Bachelor’s and Master’s degree students. Since 1979, he has also been a permanent lecturer for marine biology courses at the Phuket Marine Biological Centre, where the majority of students from the Department of Marine Science, Faculty of Fisheries, have participated.

In 1991, he established the Tropical Marine Mollusc Programme (TMMP) sponsored by DANIDA.

This is a joint research programme consisting of 30 institutions from 22 countries, including the Faculty of Fisheries, Thailand. This programme has played an important role in supporting research and education for Thai students.

Recognising his keen devotion to enhance research and educational opportunity for the students of the university, together with his excellent work in marine science research and development, the Kasetsart University Council made a unanimous decision at its meeting on 22 February 2010 to award Dr Jørgen Hylleberg the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Marine Science).
