Norwegian PM Hails China’s Economic Growth

Norway Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg on Thursday said China’s rapid growth plays an important role in the world’s economic development.

Stoltenberg, who spoke during a meeting with Liu Qi, a Chinese party official, said Norway was willing to strengthen its relations and enhance cooperation and coordinate more closely with China in dealing with the international financial crisis and climate change.

Liu, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and secretary of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the CPC, arrived in Oslo on Wednesday for a four-day visit.


Liu told Stoltenberg that China attaches great importance to developing Sino-Norwegian ties and is willing to deepen exchanges and cooperation with Norway in every field.


Also Thursday, Raymond Johansen, the general secretary of the Norwegian Labor Party, and Oslo Mayor Fabian Stang met separately with Liu.


Liu was also scheduled to meet with Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Store, Trade and Industry Minister Trond Giske and Crown Prince Haakon on Friday.


After his journey to Norway, Liu was to travel to Sweden during a five-nation trip that also includes visits to Iceland, the Netherlands and Switzerland.
