Received in the Presidential Palace

On the 30th of September, the new Danish Ambassador to Vietnam, Mr. John Nielsen, presented his Letter of Credentials to the President of Vietnam H.E. Mr. Nguyen Minh Triet. The two parties discussed the Danish-Vietnamese relations and reaffirmed the excellent relationship between the two countries.


Ambassador John Nielsen was received in the presidential palace in Hanoi on the 30th of September 2010. The President of Vietnam, H.E. Mr. Nguyen Minh Triet welcomed the new Danish Ambassador and hoped that the new Ambassador would contribute to further strengthen the excellent relations between our two countries. The President said that the Danish support to poverty reduction in Vietnam had been instrumental in the fight against poverty. The President also emphasized the strong personal relationship with the Royal Family, which was strengthened during the State Visit to Vietnam in November 2009.

The Danish Ambassador to Vietnam stated that Denmark is committed to carry on our assistance towards poverty alleviation towards 2015, while we will continue to expand our cooperation within the commercial area. The future Danish assistance to Vietnam will focus on business instruments, climate change, governance, culture, and research.

The Ambassador said that trade and investment should be further strengthened. “Vietnam is a promising market for Danish companies, and I hope we will be able to increase our cooperation within the area of climate change and energy efficiency. Danish companies have world-leading technologies, products, and knowhow within renewable energy, which could contribute to ease the huge challenges Vietnam face in this area”.


Mr. John Nielsen concluded by saying that in 2011 Vietnam and Denmark will celebrate the 40th anniversary of assuming diplomatic relations, and that it would be a good opportunity to further strengthen the ties between our two countries.
