Norwegian Oil and Gas Partners Visit Indonesia

A delegation from the Norwegian Oil and Gas Partners (INTSOK) visited Indonesia and Singapore with the main purpose of getting to know the market and explore the investment opportunities.

Norwegian Oil and Gas Partners (INTSOK) is a partnership established in 1997 by the Norwegian oil and gas industry and the Norwegian Government. The objective of the partnership is to assist companies throughout the industry to expand their business activities in the international oil and gas markets on the basis of the industry’s leading edge experience, technology and expertise.

The main purpose of the delegation’s visit to Indonesia was to explore the investment opportunities. This is the second time INTSOK has visited Indonesia with such a large delegation, and in this year’s delegation 14 companies was represented; many of them for the first time. This indicates that the Indonesian oil and gas market is a priority for Norwegian companies seeking to operate in the sector.

The Indonesian oil and gas sector entails huge potentials and many of their resources are not yet explored. The upstream oil and gas sector is a vital element in the Norwegian economy, providing employment for some 250.000 people directly and indirectly in Norway. Norwegian competence on offshore operations is unique and is of huge interest for countries like Indonesia, as they possess this huge unexplored potential. Indonesian oil and gas sector is now moving into deeper waters – and the few offshore gas field developments are maturing. In this respect the timing for the delegation visit was good.

The four day visit started in Jakarta on the 4th of October 2010. The first day of the visit, the delegation participated at a seminar where updates on the Indonesian economy, the business environment and the Indonesian oil & gas sector were provided by Norwegian and Indonesian representatives. Amongst the speakers was the former Vice-chairman of the Indonesian oil directorate, Abdul Muin, the President / Director of Statoil Indonesia, Tor Fjæran, and Arnfinn Jacobsen from IndoPac Edelman, a company highly involved in advising foreign companies in the oil and gas sector in Indonesia. The Ambassador of the Norwegian Embassy, H.E. Eivind Homme, hosted the evening dinner for the delegation together with Indonesian stakeholders and partners.

The program also entailed visits to oil & gas contracting companies in Jakarta and to Batam. The Norwegian Embassy in Jakarta is undertaking a supportive role towards the initiatives taken by INTSOK, and will further continue assisting Norwegian companies in their potential co-operative activities in Indonesia.
