The Ambassador Visits Tsinghua University

On Friday November 19, Danish Ambassador to China, Friis Arne Petersen, met with President of Tsinghua University, professor, Dr. Gu Binglin. Mr. Gu Binglin is member of the Chinese Academy of Science and holds a Ph.D. in physics acquired from Aarhus University in Denmark in the early 1980’s.


The Ambassador and the President exchanged views on research, innovation and science and the future possibilities of enhancing cooperation between Denmark and China within these fields. Tsinghua University is in its specific fields of studies among the leading universities in the world. One of the special strengths and characteristics of Tsinghua University is the constant effort to create advanced and applied research in cooperation with companies’ research and innovation.


As one of China’s leading institutions for research and teaching Tsinghua University has regional cooperation with 28 provincial governments and hosts the most active science park in China with more than 400 companies and research centres.

Also present at the meeting was Professor Xiao Wenling of the University’s Academy of Arts and Director of the International Office, Professor Luo Lisheng.


After meeting Mr. Gu Binglin, the Danish Ambassador was given a guided tour of the university’s Department of Environmental Science and Engineering, which was the first department established in China dedicated solely to the research of environmental issues and problems.
