Danish Ambassador Visits Chongqing

Danish Ambassador to China, Mr. Friis Arne Petersen, visits Chongqing in the first of a series of trips to a number of China’s provinces.


During his three day stay in Chongqing, the Ambassador will meet with high level officials, university professors, scholars and students. The visit also includes activities and seminars with Danish businesses present in the region.


Upon arrival, the Ambassador will be participating in the opening of Danish Offshore Windpower Industry Seminar followed by a visit to Chongqing Brewery together with Carlsberg China. In the afternoon, a high level meeting with representatives from the local government will take place.


Later Ambassador Petersen gives the opening speech at Danish Water Seminar and visits a social development project to see some of the social challenges in Chongqing. Later Thursday, the topic of hukou and integration of migrant workers is on the agenda, at the Chinese Academy of Social Science.


 “By staying in Beijing one does not fully get to understand the complexity and regional differences today’s China consist of. This is why we have initiated a series of visits to important regions around the country,” Ambassador Friis Arne Petersen says.


Before returning to Beijing on Friday the Ambassador visits the Royal Danish Consulate in Chongqing.


“Chongqing has become the front line for investments to West China. With a growth rate of 17 % for 2010 the city’s growth by far exceeds the national average. Chongqing’s reputation of being unknown outside of China will soon be history,” says Consular Hans Halskov. 


The trip to Chongqing is the first out of many visits to selected provinces made by the Ambassador in 2011. These visits aim at further improve ties with local leaders, facilitating meetings and debates with scholars and students, promoting Danish business interests and paying visits to civil society organisations and project.
