Fate of Danish Cambodia Office Unclear

The fate of the Danish representative office in Phnom Penh will be decided during the spring. Seeking clarification on the matter, the Danish Ministry for Foreign Affairs confirmed that Cambodia will be dropped from the list of countries receiving Danish developement aid but it was still too early to say what consequences this would have for the current office and staff in Phnom Penh.

The Danish government has decided to cut the number of countries receiving development aid from now 26 to 15 countries. The new strategy will result in more focus on Africa and less on Latin America and Asia.

The final decision can be delayed if an election will be announced in Denmark before the scheduled meeting this spring.
