Finland Support New Community Shelter

A ground breaking ceremony for a community house was recently organized in Quang Thanh Commune. This activity is under the project Community-based Adaptation to Climate Change and Policy Linkages in Thua Thien Hue Province which is funded by the Embassy’s Fund for Local Cooperation.


Present at the ceremony were representatives of the local government, project management board and local people. 

Speaking at the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Van Thang, Project Manager, expressed thanks to the Embassy of Finland for its financial support to this project in general and to the construction of this shelter in particular. 

The shelter, upon completion, will be used as a multi-purposed house for community-based social and cultural activities.  In addition, it will be a safe place for local people to evacuate when floods come. 

On behalf of the local authority, Mr. Le Tien, Vice Chief of the Standing Party Committee of Quang Thanh Commune was committed to mobilizing local resources to monitor the quality of construction in line with the plan.  Mr. Truong Le, a representative of  beneficiaries, was so happy with the construction of shelter.  He promised to encourage villagers to use the facility effectively and properly.


This project is implemented by the Institute of Resources, Environment and Biotechnology (Hue University) with the budget of 100 000 € for the period of April 2009 – June 2011.
