Swedish Group Interested in Temasek’s Thai Air Asia Shares

A Swedish group of investors may take over shares in Thai Air Asia currently owned by Temasek – the Singaporean investment corporation.
According to an article in the Thai newspaper Siam Turakij, the Swedish group is looking to invest in a low cost airline in the region. As such, the successful Air Asia is an obvious target. Thai Air Asia is furthermore scheduled to be introduced on the Stock Exchange of Thailand later this year which could be a further incentive to take over the Temasek shares.
Siam Turakij attributes the information to sources at the Malaysian Embassy in Bangkok.
The paper has no further details of the Swedish investor group interested in Temasek’s shares in the airline. The only currently known connection between Sweden and Temasek is that Marcus Wallenberg, Chairman of Swedish bank Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken, was appointed new board member of Temasek in July 2008.
