Vinamilk and Chr.Hansen Ink Nutrition Deal

Vietnam’s leading dairy company Vinamilk has signed with Chr. Hansen among others, a cooperation agreement in research and application of nutrition science into products for Vietnamese children.

The signing partners, namely DSM Corporation (DSM) and Lonza Corporation (Lonza) from Switzerland, and Chris Hansen Corporation (Chr.Hansen) from Denmark, have been working with Vinamilk in developing formulated milk powder products under the Dielac brand name, according to a press release by Vinamilk.

The deal signed on Tuesday aimed to strengthen cooperation in five “key areas” including exchanging market information, products R&D, personnel training and using trademark, the release said.

It quoted Mai Kieu Lien, Chairwoman and CEO of Vinamilk as saying that the “strategic cooperation” with the European partners would “significantly support [Vinamil] in developing the breakthrough products, which are in world-class quality and fit with Vietnamese children’s needs.”

According to a research on the nutritional needs of Vietnamese children, which was carried out on more than 50,000 kids in the group of ages between 2 and 5 in 2009 by the Vietnam National Institute of Nutrition, 18 percent of the children is in poor nutritional situation without important micronutrients like iron, magnesium, vitamin A.

The research result was announced at the same signing ceremony.
