The Norwegian Embassy in Indonesia Participates in B4E

The Norwegian Embassy led by Ambassador Eivind S. Homme took part in the Business for Environment (B4E) Conference in Jakarta April 28- 29th.


The B4E is the world’s most important conference for sustainable business opportunities and serves as a meeting place for business, government and civil society interested in promoting the green economy.


The fourth B4E conference was hosted by the Ministry of Environment, the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Investment Coordinating Board, WWF and Global Initiatives. The conference was opened by H.E. Minister of Environment, Gusti Muhammed Hatta. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono held a keynote speech where he commended Norway’s partnership with Indonesia on reducing green house gas emissions from deforestation and forest degradation and stressed the importance of combining emission cuts with economic growth. Another keynote speaker was the UNDP Administrator Helen Clark. She underlined UNDP’s role in promoting inclusive development as part of the sustainable development framework and also noted the Indonesia- Norway partnership on forest and climate.

Norway’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Eivind S. Homme was invited to speak at two events: At the pre-conference event for finding green economy solutions in the Heart of Borneo hosted by WWF where other speakers included representatives from the Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Finance and from the UNEP led study on The Economy of Ecosystems and Biodiversity (TEEB). Ambassador Homme also gave a speech at a luncheon hosted by the Center for International Forest Research – CIFOR, together with the Special Assistant on Climate Change to the President of Republic of Indonesia, Agus Purnomo, CIFOR Director General, Frances Seymour and Corporate Affairs Director of PT Carrefour Indonesia, Mr. Adji Srihandoyo.
