Probe Into Possible TOT Collusion Sought

The Office of the Auditor-General has asked the minister of information and communications technology and the chairman of TOT to examine whether there was collusion in the bidding process for TOT’s procurement of 3G network equipment.

A letter sent by the office to both this week noted a visit by TOT management to a Nokia Siemens Networks factory in Finland as well as to Alcatel-Lucent in France from July 11 to 20.

There are questions over whether Alcatel-Lucent supplied equipment to both the SL and AU consortia that were qualified bidders for TOT’s procurement of 3G network equipment in January. The SL consortium won the bid.

The OAG said that if the French company supplied both consortia in the same bidding process it would violate the terms of reference, which barred a network supplier from offering equipment in the same auction to more than one bidder. MRTA governor race

Four people have joined the race to become governor of the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand, including deputy governors Ronnachit Yaemsa-ard and Chaisit Kururat.

A source at the agency, which looks after mass transit development in Bangkok, told Krungthep Turakij that former TOT president Teeravit Charuwat and a former official at the Transportation Organisation of Thailand were also candidates.

“Initially, Ronnachit has the highest chance of winning the race,” the source said.
