In the ’90s, Manila was named the text-messaging capital of the world. Now recent studies by the Finnish mobile technology giant Nokia says the Philippines has set a new world record again, this time as one of the most active takers and sharers of mobile phone photos on the Web.
The study, conducted online in eight countries – including India, Italy, Singapore and Thailand – with more than 8,000 respondents each, revealed that 70 percent of Filipinos take photos using their mobile phones at least once a week. Thirty-one percent said they take photos using their phones every day.
Taking photos using the cellphone is so popular in the Philippines, said Nokia Philippines corporate communications manager Nikka Abes, that the Filipinos’ first consideration when buying a new phone is the quality of the camera. Next to consider are the megapixels of the camera. A not-so-distant third is the range of colors to choose from.
