Ewa Björling to meet Malaysian trade minister

On Wednesday 28 September, Minister for Trade Ewa Björling will meet Malaysian Minister of International Trade and Industry Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed for talks. The agenda includes bilateral economic issues and EU negotiations with Malaysia on a free trade agreement.

“Malaysia is an important Asian partner and we have seen increased interest in Malaysia among Swedish companies. We also note that Swedish tourism to Malaysia is increasing,” says Dr Björling.

“Our ambition is to be able to conclude the negotiations between the EU and Malaysia on a free trade agreement in 2012 as planned. A free trade agreement will help strengthen the already good relations between the EU and Malaysia,” says Dr Björling.

Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed is leading a trade delegation to Sweden for Malaysian businesses. The delegation will also visit Italy and Norway during its trip.

Both Swedish exports to, and imports from, Malaysia increased in 2010. Many Swedish companies are represented in Malaysia, which also serves as a regional hub for many companies.
