The Guitar Man by Jon Fosse, translated to Chinese by Lulu Zou, opens on the 4th of November at The New Space, Shanghai Theatre Academy.
The Guitar Man is the second Fosse play to be performed in Chinese. In 2010 Ibsen International commissioned the play Someone is Going to Come by Jon Fosse, translated by Lulu Zou and produced by Shanghai Theatre Academy.
Out of all Jon Fosse’s plays, the Guitar Man is the only solo, and the most performed piece by students all over the world. Young artists with different language and cultural background have put this simple but beautiful play on stage in so many different corners of the world. They have also composed music for the play since it is such a wonderful combination of acting and singing. On November 4th the audience will have the oppurtunity of enjoying the young Chinese actor, composer and Director Ma Da’s interpretation of Jon Fosse.
The Guitar Man is a part of Jon Fosse Project in China presented by Ibsen International and TTS Group Norway in cooperation with Shanghai Theatre Academy. The Norwegian writer Jon Fosse is the most played contemporary playwright in the world today, and has been translated to more than 40 languages. The Jon Fosse project in China is part of Ibsen in China- a long-term project run by Ibsen international in cooperation with several other Chinese and Norwegian partners. This project develops the knowledge and awareness of Jon Fosse’s play, the cooperation between Chinese and Norwegian artists, scholars and other culture exchange activities.
