Norwegian Minister talk about environment in Myanmar

Recently, H.E. Mr. Erik Solheim, Norwegian Minister for the Environment and International Development, visited Myanmar.

As the first Western politician, Mr. Erik Solheim met with the President of Myanmar, Mr. Thein Sein, in the Presidential Palace in Nay Pyi Taw. During his visit to Nay Pyi Taw, Mr. Solheim also met with Union Parliament Speaker Thura Shwe Mann, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Industry Minister, the Planning Minister and the Minister for Environment Conservation and Forestry. In Yangon, he met Nobel Peace Prize laureate Aung San Suu Kyi, the recently released political prisoner Zaganar, and representatives from the major opposition parties, as well as representatives from the Myanmar Rice Association and Myanmar Chamber of Commerce.


In addition to official meetings and talks, the Norwegian Minister was invited to give one of the opening addresses at The First Myanmar Forum of Green Economy and Green Growth (GEGG) held in Nay Pyi Taw, together with the Minister of Environment Conservation and Forestry, the Chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, Dr. Pauchauri, and the UN Special Envoy to Myanmar, Mr. Vijay Nambiar.
