Norway Supports Indonesian Arts

The Norwegian Ambassador to Indonesia Eivind S. Homme said on 30 November 2011 that the Norwegian Embassy in Jakarta has encouraged and fully supported the efforts of any Indonesian cultural centers or institutes to perform the country’s plays.

After  successfully strengthening its Norway – Indonesia relations, especially in climate change, democracy, human rights and energy sectors, Norway has gone to focusing in this entirely new field, culture.

Earlier in October, the embassy brought Norwegian award-winning writer Jostein Gaarder to Jakarta. He delivered a lecture, “Human rights and human obligations” and “What can be done to address climate change?”

Norway is now also known as Indonesia’s billion-dollar friend after the former agreed last year to give US$1 billion to Jakarta to reduce emissions from deforestation and forest degradation.
