Danish Government Open for Dual Citizenship for Danes

Danes Worldwide together with the organisation statsborger.dk met on Friday 2 December 2011 with the Danish Ministry of Justice to talk about allowing dual nationality for Danes.
“It was a very positive meeting where our views were well received,” reports Danes Worldwide.
DW and statborger.dk presented the Ministry with a long list of organisations and associations of Danes living abroad that supported the demand for Danes being permitted to keep their original citizenship, while they also could obtain Danish citizenship.
The Ministry of Justice is currently doing an investigation to identify the legal status of the issue. The report is expected completed by the end of February, after which it will be discussed in the government. Not until then will there be any decission to propose any legislative change.
The parties agreed to keep in regular contact and hold a second meeting later in the winter.
“In addition, we were invited to provide in-put to the report, particularly around cases where our members are prevented from fully integrating into their new country because of the citizenship issue,” Danes Worldwide add.
If anyone has a case to contribute, they can contact [email protected] or statsborger.dk
