The Ambassador Meets the Thai Minister of Foreign Affairs

On 15 December 2011, Thursday, Ambassador Mikael Hemniti Winther made a courtesy call to the Thai Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Surapong Tovichakchaikul.

It was an opportunity for reaffirmation not only of the good long-standing bilateral relations between the Royal families and Government level, but also between the people of Thailand and Denmark.


The Ambassador expressed his deepest compassion and sympathy to the Thai people for the ordeals they are going through due to the recent severe flooding in Thailand.


The Ambassador and the Foreign Minister agreed that Denmark and Thailand can work closely together in the on-going rehabilitation process as well as in preventing future flooding. It was assessed, that there is a great potential for strengthening the economic cooperation between the two countries – especially in the areas of water management and agricultural technology.


The democratic development in Burma/Myanmar was also discussed as well as the general development in ASEAN. The Ambassador announced that Denmark will take over the presidency of the EU from January the 1st 2012 and that we are hoping for close cooperation between Thailand and EU in the time to come.
