Philippine drivers rejected contract from Danish employer

Philippine drivers in Denmark have on 4 November rejected a contract from their criticized employer, because they find the pay increase too small.

26 Philippine drivers working for a subsidiary of the Danish carrier Kurt Beier have declined a new contract for a monthly salary of € 1.300 euro, according to Fagbladet 3F.

The salary would have been a pay increase of € 240. Up to 200 Philippine Kurt Beier drivers around Europe follow their decision.

Kurt Beier has earlier been criticized for offering his Philippines workers poor working conditions.

The contract offer was made in Copenhagen following negotiations between carrier Kurt Beier’s Polish subsidiary HBT and representatives of the Philippine Embassy.

“We say no to his offer, because it is not good enough for any of us. We just have to continue our fight for good working conditions, especially for Asian drivers,” “said Philippine driver Richard De Leon to Fagbladet 3F.

Danish police are now investigating whether the drivers are victims of human trafficking.

It has not been possible for Fagbladet 3F to get a comment from the director of Kurt Beier A / S Karsten Beier.
