Chinese company considers oil exploration in Norway

Apparently oil is more important than who gets the Nobel prize and official visits by Dalai Lama. At least for State owned Cnooc that, according to Bloomberg, has ignored diplomatic tensions and contacted the Norwegian Petrolium Directorate to buy seismic data in the Barents Sea.

The part of the Barents Sea Cnooc have been interested is an area where licenses will be awarded in 2016. Bloomberg has their information from an e-mail sent to the Norwegian Petroleum Dictorate and according to them it is not the first time Chinese companies have ignored the cold political relatinship between Norway and China. Just last year Cnooc became a partner in Norway’s state owned Petoro A/S in an exploration license off Iceland’s shores.
