Chinese power transfer, political course unchanged

The Chinese Communist Party has appointed Xi Jinping, 59, as the party’s new secretary general. Next year he is expected to become president of the world’s most populous nation and second largest economy, according to the Chinese state news agency Xinhua.

The Confederation of Danish Industry’s China expert Nis Høyrup Christensen particularly stresses the fact that the transition to the new leadership in the Communist Party is peaceful.

“The new leaders are aware of the enormous challenges China is facing, among other factors as a result of the country’s giant growth. They will have to turn their focus to those issues,” explains Christensen.

He predicts that, in numerous parameters and with their special competences in cleantech and social and health care, Danish businesses will still have good chances of developing a successful market in China.
