Separatists in Thailand are attacking schools and teachers because they see them as representatives of the state.
– It is targeted violence, not random attacks. They attack the teachers in public schools because the education system in Thailand is very focused on Thai values. The schools are arranged to socialize people to sympathize with Thai nationalist ideals, Dr. Srisompob Jitpiromsri, director of the local organization Deep South Watch, explains.
– It is the Thai, Buddhist teachers who are targets of the attacks, Dr. Jitpriromsri says.
